Steinbeck and Perfection

BLOG OF THE YEAR NOMINEE

“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.”
John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Braving the pages of East of Eden, humbled by the master storyteller, I realize the profound truth of this quote in life and infertility.

So often the pursuit of perfection produces more chaos and disappointment, and good plans that could move you forward are scrapped for another draft to make the plan more ‘perfect.’

Ultimately–nothing gets done, because perfection’s mirage keeps disappearing as soon as we get close and realize it needs to be tweaked here, or isn’t quite exactly right there.

The pursuit of perfection, in my opinion, is a procrastinator’s crutch–the excuse for never taking action because ‘it’s not quite there yet.’

A good plan put into action, is better than the pursuit of a perfect plan that never comes to life.

Have a blessed Sunday.
