Friday Fun Stuff: South Park Infertility Wisdom

Lisa says that sometimes I am just too serious with my posting, so in the interest of Friday fun, I’ve put together some modified South Park quotes and how they might apply to the infertility journey.

Although the show is foul and often crosses boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed with its in your face politically incorrect banter about a myriad of topics, the bottom line is we found it funny as hell, and the perfect escape from the universe that so often was cosmically screwing up our attempts at entering the parenthood population with failed infertility cycles, while “oops we’re pregnant” parenthood was booming.

For those times when the universe is asking you to be tolerant of  everyone else in the world’s new baby news even though you just failed another cycle…

“Tolerant, but not stupid!

Look, just because you have to tolerate something doesn’t mean you have to approve of it! …”Tolerate” means you’re just putting up with it! You tolerate a crying child sitting next to you on the airplane or, or you tolerate a bad cold.

It can still piss you off!” — Mr. Garrison

After you’ve given someone the bad news about a failed cycle, a South Park Inspired suggestion to avoid any further inquiry on the subject….

“If there are any questions, direct them to that brick wall over there.” — Network President

A suggestion to the billing department after failing a prepaid IVF cycle

“This is America! And in America, if something sucks, you’re supposed to be able to get your money back!”

The complex emotional roller coaster of happiness and sadness in the infertility journey…

“I’m sad, but at the same time I’m really happy that something made me feel that sad. It’s like, it makes me feel alive, you know? It makes me feel human. The only way I could feel this sad now is if I felt something really good before, so I have to take the bad with the good. So I guess what I’m feeling is like, the beautiful sadness.”

Trying to be grateful for the blessings in your life, when you feel grateful for nothing because you just got a BFN after 45 days and about $10k on an IVF:

“Lord, we thank you for this staggering payload of frozen waffles you have bestowed upon us. And since we have been faithful to you, we know that you will send us some good fortune one of these days, even though you sure as hell seem to be taking your sweet time. Amen.”
